Comfortable Manatee Appreciation Day – Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Backyard

We have fun manatees day by day right here on the Cincinnati Zoo, however at this time is an additional special occasion: Manatee Appreciation Day!

The Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Backyard is one of some U.S. Zoos outdoors of Florida that take part within the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s (USFWS) Manatee Rescue & Rehabilitation Partnership (MRP). The objective of this system is to rescue and deal with unwell, injured and orphaned manatees after which launch them again into the wild.

We’re a second stage rehabilitation heart for rescued manatees who must get large and powerful sufficient to be launched again to their native Florida waters! Since 1999, the Cincinnati Zoo has cared for 29 manatees with 24 of them being launched again to the wild! Most not too long ago, in February of 2024, orphaned manatees Calliope, Piccolina & Soleil had been launched at Crystal River, Florida.

At present, Nolia, Amethyst and Waffles are rehabilitating on the Cincinnati Zoo till they’ll head again right down to Flordia!
